We all love to travel and it’s safe to say many of us would like to do so in as much luxury as possible. Travel can be expensive though and budgets may not always allow us to do things we want to. However, there are tricks and tips that can help you save money and get the very best holiday for your budget.
For most destinations there is a default airport (usually the biggest in the area) in which you are automatically sent. If you are flying to any major city there will always be another airport nearby. By changing your flight to a smaller, slightly further away airport you can dramatically cut airline ticket costs especially for a large travelling party. Just remember that being slightly further away from your destination means you need to take into account transport costs from the airport to make sure you are actually making a saving.
Avoid Hotel Breakfast
If breakfast is not included in the price the hotel can be one of the most expensive places to get it. The local cafes will often be serving the same food (if not better) at a much cheaper price. Plus, the whole point of travel is to explore local culture; something you cannot do sitting in the hotel dining room.
Take Public Transport
Too many of us rely too heavily on taxis when travelling and the costs can soon mount up as taxi drivers more often than not bump up their prices for tourists. Buses, trains and subways are a much cheaper alternative and definitely less boring as you get to mix with the locals. If you are unsure about how certain public transport works in the area ask a member of staff where you are staying as they are usually more than happy to help.
Chose a Nearby Town
Similar to the alternate airport tip, a great way to save money is to stay nearby a popular resort as opposed to in it. Accommodation in the next town over from a popular destination will be much cheaper and you will only be a tiny bit further away from sights and attractions.
Choose a Suite
Suites are often seen as an expensive option which may be true when travelling alone but can work well for larger groups. A 3 bedroom suite will work out cheaper than 3 individual rooms in the same hotel. You get the same amount of privacy just at a lower price.
Choose a Hotel with Free Extras
Many hotels offer internet access, local calls, parking and other extras for free. Staying at a hotel with these free extras will save you money by not having to pay for them somewhere else.
There are always things that can be done to make the most of your budget. Check comparison websites for the best deals and do not be afraid to ask for things. You would be surprised how much you can get by simply asking for it (nicely of course).
